Solar inside Letchworth's Heritage Area

Letchworth Garden City has some of the tightest design oversight in the region, and it's the reason a lot of homeowners there assume solar is off the table. This project shows otherwise: a full solar and battery installation completed within the Heritage Area, designed so the array sits sympathetically with the character of the property.

The homeowner now generates their own electricity through the day and stores the surplus for the evening, cutting both their grid reliance and their bills.

  • 10 × Jinko 470W solar panels (4.7kW array)
  • 5kW Fox ESS hybrid inverter
  • 11.5kWh Fox ESS battery storage
  • Designed and sited to suit a Heritage Area property
  • Bird guarding tucked in behind the panel edge rather than sat on top of it

Off-grid solar and storage

A complete Fox ESS off-grid solar and battery system, giving the customer reliable independent power with no grid connection at all.

Off-grid design is a different discipline from grid-tied work. There's no supply to fall back on when the battery is low, so the system has to be sized around the worst week of the year rather than the best. That means detailed conversations about what needs powering and when, before anything is specified.

  • Fox ESS off-grid solar and battery storage
  • Storage sized for day and night use year-round
  • Reliable backup power through the winter months
  • Designed around the customer's actual consumption pattern
