EV charger installation

Installed to the wiring regulations by an electrical contractor, and configured to use your own generation rather than the grid wherever it can.

Home & workplace

The cheapest miles you'll ever drive come off your own roof

Charging an electric car from imported electricity is already far cheaper than petrol. Charging it from your own solar is cheaper again, and if you've got a chargepoint that can follow your generation, a sunny afternoon can put a meaningful number of free miles in the car.

As electrical contractors, this is straightforward work for us. We'll check whether your existing supply and consumer unit can take the load before quoting, which is a step that gets skipped surprisingly often.

  • Home chargepoints, wall or post mounted
  • Solar-linked charging so the car soaks up surplus generation
  • Load assessment and any consumer unit work needed, done in-house
  • Workplace and small fleet installations
  • Installed and certified to BS 7671, notified under Part P
  • Tethered or untethered, 7kW single phase or three phase where available

Common questions

Things people usually ask

Can I charge my car from my solar panels?
Yes, with a chargepoint that supports solar matching. It monitors what your house is exporting and diverts that surplus to the car instead. If you've also got a battery there's a balance to strike between charging the car and charging the battery, and we'll set the priorities up with you.
Is there a grant for a home charger?
The general grant for homeowners with off-street parking has closed. The EV chargepoint grant is still available for people living in flats and for renters in eligible properties, and there are separate schemes for workplaces. We'll tell you honestly whether you qualify rather than building it into a quote and hoping.
Do I need my fuse board upgraded first?
Sometimes. A chargepoint is a substantial continuous load and older boards occasionally can't accommodate it safely. We check this at the survey, and if it does need doing, it's work we carry out ourselves.
How long does installation take?
Most domestic chargepoint installations are done comfortably within a day.
